        A model of green building

The Empire State Building: the building has become the most environmentally friendly

Up to 102-story of the Empire State Building was built in the30’s of the 20th century, during the Great Depression. This is a giant Art Deco architecture construction made of concrete. There are many offices and restaurants in the Empire State Building. And many tourists come here to appreciate the spectacular views of Manhattan. This landmark building with a long history now is undergoing tremendous changes. The owners of the Empire State Building said the project of renovating the building will reduce energy consumption by 38%, and will be completed in 2013. Although the budget of renovation is 20 million US dollars, the energy consumption of buildings can save 44 million US dollars every year.

 

Gwanggyo in Seoul, South Korea: a self-sufficiency green city

“Gwanggyo” dream city designed by architectural design company MVRDV of Netherland is a new concept self-sufficiency green city located 35 miles south of Seoul, South Korea. The construction mode is "hill terraces", and each hill-shaped building contains housing, Office area, squares and shopping malls, museums and leisure areas. All building roofs and platform will also string together into an ecological park, so that it not only can improve the regional climate and ventilation, but also reduces the consumption of energy and water. Each "hill" is surrounded by vegetation and around the circulation system between floors will store the water as daily watering. It is expected to accommodate 77,000 people and complete the envisaged development in 2011.

 

The large eco-building in New Orleans: can accommodate 40,000 people

As a representative of ecological architecture in New Orleans, Noah can accommodate 20,000 housing units, three hotels and 1,500 timeshare units. This huge pyramid-shaped building can provide one-stop service to the residents, including the size of shopping malls, 8,000 parking spaces, as well as cultural space, schools, municipal facilities, government agencies, and health care facilities. It looks like if a person wants he cannot walk out of Noah for the whole life. Noah's foundation can be floating, the main structure is a hollow style, this design makes the destruction reduce to a minimum extend when the building is hit by hurricane from any direction.

 

The green building in Malaysia: according to the local condition

The Menara Mesiniaga in Subang Jaya, Malaysia is also a green building. In order to produce the heat in the building, many plants are around the building so when design the building the climate of Malaysia is taken into account. According to the direction of the sunlight, the maximum use of natural ventilation is designed and it provides cool oxygen-rich air. In addition, the architecture designer uses different ways to collect the light according to the different sides of the building-from east (hot) to west, the sun visor system is installed along the glass facade of the offices in a certain distance in order to make a effective shade to the building. While in the north and south side of the building which are the cold sides, designer have adopted non-covered glass wall windows to get enough sunshine. There are also many auto insulation systems are used on the roof terrace to reduce energy consumption by equipments and air conditioner system.

 

The glass Building the headquarters of Gazprom: super insulation and energy-efficient

The building completed by Robert Matthew Johnson Marshall (RMJM) construction design company is up to 396 meters. A "heart" around the building body is created by using the "skin" which is two pieces of glass to make the building have super-insulation so that it saves effectively energy consumption in the process of cooling the building. But it was once against by the Architectural Association in St. Petersburg "a 400-meter-high skyscraper is built in the heart of the cultural relics in St. Petersburg", and sued Gazprom. Now the government of St. Petersburg must cut annual budget because of the economic crisis which makes the completion of the building had to be postponed.
