The locusts spread after warm winter

Global warming, especially the winter temperature rise is conducive to the increase of overwintering eggs of locusts for the outbreak of the locusts plague in next year. In addition, the superposition of climate warming, intensified drought, grassland degradation and other factors will provide suitable spawning origin for locusts. And locusts have a strong ability to adapt to drought, because other insects and birds in this case cannot survive and also a filamentous fungus disease for locusts was suppressed. So, they multiply fast and rapidly grow. Therefore, experts predict that as global warming, locust disaster will continue to grow in future.

Region in Northwest China experienced a serious locust plague years: A rare locust plague was occurred of all times in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia in July 2003, countless locusts covered the whole streets and lanes overnight, flying around and eat the flowers, grass in the green belt urban areas and tree leaves. In the same year locusts invaded southwest Leizhou, large areas of crops were seriously consumed by locusts. As locusts invaded Kazakhstan region, only one county invaded by locusts was 56 million square meters grassland in Habahe County, Altay.

Millions of locusts swarmed through Israel’s Red Sea city Eilat, destroyed the large number of crops and flowers in southern Israel cities by locust plague in November 21, 2004. Israeli government used the plane spraying insecticide to kill locust.

In Staro Pol region in southern Russia, approximately 26.7 million hectares of grassland and cultivated land were invaded by locusts in 2001.

The western United States Nevada, Utah and Idaho were suffered from locust plague infestation in 2003, and the disaster in Idaho was the worst since World War II.

The warm and humid climate in summer in Australian provided an ideal outbreak environment for locusts in 2009. Three times outbreak of locust plague, the scale was larger 150 times than the previous each time. After in the ground through the cold winter, the first generation of locusts had begun to appear in 2010. August was the wettest month in the past 7 years, provided the perfect outbreak environment for locusts.
