First story:
In the snack street, in front of a very busy vendor's stand, we heard a man with foreign accent saying , he said, " Boss , what is Rice porridge with pickled cabbage? I would like to have a bowl of it ". The boss was giving a bowl to him intensely. We were looking at the man to have a try , and we hurriedly did an little interview. The man told us that it was the first time to for him to have this porridge, he did not know why it had such bad taste, and he never wanted to eat, but he did not want to waste, so he kept on having it, suddenly he felt cool and refreshing taste. It was really memorable. An old grandpa told us, sauerkraut was like the life-saving straw of the ancients , and was a nice dish of predecessors and now is good for people to regulate their appetite. Grandpa said, when he was young, he liked t o drink a bottle of water with pickled cabbage when he was tired in the fields. There were many kinds of pickled vegetables, but the pickled cabbage in our hometown can be made only by the water in our hometown. An old granny said,"she wanted to have sauerkraut when she lived with her daughter in Chengdu, but she could not made the native pickled vegetables in all kinds of ways" . As the saying goes, the unique features of a local environment always give special characteristics to its inhabitants. I remember my uncle was from Zhejiang.When he came to my home for the first time, and had drunk a mouthful of pickled cabbage Rice porridge with a big scream, " P orridge is sour......" , many people from other places are not used to eating our home pickled cabbage. But as time went on, my uncle could not help eating it when we enjoyed delicious pickled cabbage. Up to now, Uncle always tells my Grandma to prepare pickled cabbage rice porridge when he is back to from Zhejiang every time.
Second story:
In 1956, some comrades envied that the capitalists had their meal with 5 bowl s , but the Liberation Army had their meal with pickled cabbage.Mao Zedong said humorously in the 8th Plenary Session : "I have always suggested that the army should work hard and become a model." At the 1949 meeting, there was a general who proposed to increase the salary in the army , and there many comrades were in favor, but I was against it. He said that the capitalists had their meal with 5 bowl s , but the Liberation Army had their meal with pickled cabbage.  But I thought that it was a good thing. The capitalists had their meal with 5 bowls, but the Liberation Army had their meal with pickled cabbage. The politics and models are all related with pickled cabbage. The people's Liberation Army needs to build a base of support with the pickled cabbage, of course, there are others. Now the army meals have improved. But the most essential is that we must advocate hard work, and it is our political nature."
