| Research Plan of Dujiangyan Project |
Lying west to the Dujiangyan city, the Dujiangyan Irrigation Project is famous as the treasure of Sichuan Province . Dujiangyan Project is functioned in both discharge of the water and irrigation of the farmlands. Ingeniously designed, the Dujiangyan Project, especially the bamboo cages, can be rated as the masterpiece of hydro engineering in ancient China . It represents ancient China 's superb science and technology and is a milestone in the world's water harnessing and irrigation history. The research of this project is very meaningful in reviewing hometown's culture and history. |

1 the reason of research
As the firecracker booms, the ceremony of Water Releasing Festival in 2007 begins. All of the people feel very delighted. 20 trumpeters and 40 actors start their performance. As the music sounds, 15 huge pictures rise slowly at the back of the platform and form a complete picture of water releasing in the ancient times. 60 dancers give their performance. In the songs and music, an official to hold a memorial ceremony and his two assistants walk to the altar slowly. Dressed in officail hat and robes, they kneel down to God River, Heaven and Earth to express their hope for good weather and good harvest. And then, some pigs and sheeps are thrown into the river as sacrificial offerings. A lot of strong men release the water into the river. Children play happily and throw the flowers in their baskets into the river to express their blessings to the people. As the music sounds again, carrying white hada in two hands, the Tibetan young girls from the upriver of Min River walk gracefully to the audience, as well as the young girls dressed in costumes of Han Dynasty carrying delicate Sichuan Brocade in their hands......With the magnificent river as the background, the whole scene becomes a harmonious picture.

Lying west to the Dujiangyan city, the Dujiangyan Irrigation Project is famous as the treasure of Sichuan Province. Constructed more than 2200 years ago, under the leadership of governor Li Bing and his son, the Dujiangyan irrigation project was the world's oldest and only damless project that is still functioning.
It represents ancient China’s superb science and technology and is a milestone in the world’s water harnessing and irrigation history. Dujiangyan city, named after the world famous irrigation system — Dujiangyan, is renowned as the “Origin of Abundant Land”. |
| Dujiangyan is rich in both natural and cultural resources such as the Dujiangyan irrigation project, Longchi National Forest Park and the famous mountain – Qingcheng Mountain which is the birthplace of Taoism, as well as a lot of modern entertaining facilities. Dujiangyan City has also superior advantages in location which is only 48km away from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province. And the national way No.213 goes across the city, which is the only way from Chengdu to Huanglong or Jiuzhaigou.
This project has been bringing benefits to both discharge of water and irrigation of farmlands. The bamboo cages play an important role in the whole project. It made great contribution to the prosperity of Chengdu Plain, which has always been praised by the people.
As the citizens in Dujiangyan, we have more passion to the water project after reading the historical book named “Excellent Project” and “Chengdu History”. We expect to learn more about its culture, history and function. The education aims at cultivating students’ conception of building hometown and country. |
| 2 Research purpose
According to doing research in Dujiangyan Project, we get to know the theory, function and historical sense of the special bamboo cages. We further realized the importance of the water project and the wisdom of ancient people. All the research is presented on the web site made by ourselves. This is a good chance to practice our computer skills, communicating skills and the ability of doing scientific research. We hope more people to know the culture of Dujiangyan and the wisdom of local citizens.

Research plan:The research last from Aug to Dec, 2007. It is divided into three parts. Stage 1 preparation (from the end of Aug to mid Sep)
In this stage, we set our team, define the title, train students’ computer skills and assign tasks to each individual. Students are asked to learn how to make web page, and how to communicate with strangers. We paste our self-made newspaper in and outside the campus. We upload our preparation work in FTP websites, which is convenient for team members’ communication.

| Stage 2 collecting material (from the end of Sep to mid Nov)
In spare time, students search information on internet and from books. They visit Dujiangyan project and interview seniors about its history and function. After contacting with officials in tourism bureau, students think about questions and the interview goes smoothly. Thus, they get a great deal of first-hand material. The whole research is presented in self-made newspapers and web pages. We hope more people to know Dujiangyan project. The first-hand material is classified and typed into computer, and then uploaded to FTP. With teachers’ guidance, we make web pages and construct web site. Stage 3: modification (end of Nov)
We correct errors in web pages, add more material in and write research report.

| 5 Research method:
Visit (main method), self-made newspaper and questionnaire, interview, record searching.6 expected result:
Puyang Middle School always puts students’ ability training on the first place. Thus, school officials put great emphasis on our research of Dujiangyan Project. There are two computer teachers, who are in charge of training students’ computer skills. Our website of Dujiangyan will be propaganda of our hometown. Our teacher has undertaken many national, provincial and city’s research, and thus accumulates a great deal of experience.
