When the Red Army entered the Yanxi field, the county party secretary Lu Ziqian sent the liaison person to Wu Shangde to report the enemy's deploying situation in Tongjiang, Zhu Guang, Zhang Qinqiu, Zeng Zhongsheng all listened to Wu Shangde’s report. Since they didn’t know whether what Wu said was true or not, they didn’t hastily believe Wu Shangde and tired up Wu Shangde. Lu Ziqian himself lead a group of general public and some party member to meet the Red Army, but when they heard that Wu Shangde was caught up, they thought that it was not the Red Army so they again lead the general public and the party member back to Tongjiang Town.
On the morning of 25th, with the guide of Wu Shangde, Kuang Jixun, the Division Commander of 12 Division of the Red Army, Gan Yuanjing, the political committee member led the advance troops to race to control the Miaoziya mountain ridge in the northwest of Tongjiang Town. Wu Shangde saw that Lu Qiang had lead a group of people shaking white flags to express their welcome on the north gate tower of Tongjiang town. When the Red Army commanders and fighters were in the fighting position, Wu Shangde led several dozen people to enter the Tongjiang town from the north gate. In less than one hour, the enemy who defended the town, including two battalions and local security team were annihilated in a large part and the Red Army only had seven people hurt. In the next day, they entered the Tongjiang town. As a result, the Tongjiang town became the “commander center” of the fourth Red Army.
