Mansion of Family Li
The Pingle Ancient Town is famous for its long history. It is located in the southwest of Chengdu. There are beautiful sceneries, a lot of achitectures of ancient style, antiques and a great number of local snacks such as pumpkin cakes and corn cakes, all of which attract visitors at home and abroad. Of course, one of these best spots here is the mansion of Family Li.
It takes about half an hour from Pingle Ancient Town to the Mansion by car. The scenery along the way is quite attractive: winding roads and green bamboos.
The Mansion is surrounded by mountains. If you come here, you will feel as if you were in paradise. There are some rare trees in front of the Mansion as well as a stone tablet saying “The Largest Architecture of the Qing Dynasty Style in West Sichuan – Mansion of Family Li”. When you come into the mansion, you will first see a big jar, which is more than 100 years old and was named “Peace Jar”. Then you will come near a gate, behind which is an old screen. The carvings on it are quite exquisite and vivid. Then you wil see the peculiar architecture here: a compound with houses around a square courtyard. There are a lot of this kind of yards in the mansion. Through the passage, you will see two benches whose carvings are also quite attractive. Here, the most attracting is a horizontal inscribed board.
It is said that more than 100 years ago, the ancestors of Family Li were businessmen. They were very kind people who often spent money building some bridges and roads for others. When the emperor then got to know this, he wanted to give something to Family Li, but they didn’t want anything. At last, the emperor decided to give a board to them, which is the one hanging in the Mansion. It is said the board has once been stolen and finally it was returned back.
There is also another speciality here: Huaqiu Tea which is famous among a lot of visitors. It is naturally grown here and tastes quite marvellous. Many tourists would bring some tea home after the visit.
