Folk stories: Literary wife
There is a literary wife who show off her knowledge by playing tricks on others often .
One day , her husband asked her to borrow an ox from his brother . She retured in bare hands . The husband asked her why and she said that his brother had not lent to her .
The man was angry and went to his brother’s home and asked why he would not like to lend his ox . The brother answered : She did not mention to borrow the ox but said something I could not understand . something like tian chu tou (meaning husband) , wu chu tou ( meaning ox) , yan dui (meaning ask ) he shou (meaning bring ) kou tao kou (meaning back ).
As the husband were accustomed to the language of his wife and got the most meaning , which meant : My husband asked me to borrow an ox , if you permit , I will take it . if you don’t agree , I will be back .
The man went back home and hit his waife , cursing : you dare to remain nonsense ?.
His wife bore it and cried : you jin mu cun ding , ming ri si ma , li si dian bu jiao ni wang er shi …
The man understood that she had meant : you can beat me today and curse me tomorrow but you can not control me . The man was angrier and knew it was no use beating her and drove her to her mother’s home .
