Nadun Masks

Two-side drum On Aug 25, 2008, Mr. Feng and I went to Baojia Village to learn the procedure of making two-side drum. Mr. Bao told us in detail.

Step 1: cut good-quality woods into slices with same thickness and shape. The slices are connected to form a barrel.

Step 2: spread special-made Ci glue on the surface of inner side, which aims at constructing an irregular side.

Step 3: spread a layer of Jiaoni on the surface of barrel. When it is dry, wrap cloth. The procedure repeats until the thickness is about 4cm.

Step 4: fix the cowskin on the two sides of drum.

Step 5: paint drum with different colors, with decoration as drug, cloud, yin and yang and etc.

Mask	Curved knife
The former masks were made of mood; nowadays, it is made of cloth. The making procedure is like this: firstly make a white clay pattern; secondly, wrap cloth and paper on the surface; thirdly, paint colors according to different roles.	Curved knife is used by Fala, which is about 0.3m long. At the end of Nadun, Fala cut the long narrow flags by it, and then throw them into fire.
Steel puncheon	Weapons
The steel puncheon is about 20cm long and 1cm wide. Fala decorates his body by putting it on his cheek, ears, noses and shoulders.	The wooden weapons like knife and sword are used in dances named Three Generals and Five Generals.
