Description of our community

Dacai Town is located at southwestern region of Huangzhong County, Qinghai Province, with average altitude 2760m. The total population is about 27,000 , including mainly three ethnic groups: Hui, Han and Tibetan. Dacai is 48km away from the capital-Xining City, and 21km away from the county government. It’s surrounded by mountains in four sides. In the south, there is famous Buddhist mount-Mount Shengdinan. In the west, it is the Pandao Reservoir. Though the industrial development is limited in Dacai, the local culture and customs is wide spread. During festivals or vacation, Quyi performers are always invited to give a show, which is a good way to enrich people’s spiritual life.

Summary of Our Project

In order to introduce Quyi more clearly, we divide project narrative into three parts: discussion on Quyi material record, interview of community people and teachers, promotion of Quyi in campus. The detail is as follows.

Our internet access

The connection speed used in the classroom is 32k as we use dial-up modem. Our team members search all the information on one computer. We have no computer at home.

How to arrange students and interviewee’ schedule?
Though students like interviewing, their schedule was conflicted with interviewee’s time plan. As our interviewee-Mr. Dang Hai-yun lived in the county seat; our interview plan was under great pressure.
Teacher went to interview alone and then retold it to students.
Safety
Students’ safety is the most important thing in our research. However, our interviews were often made temporarily; we had to apply to school leaders and then carried out our plan.
Make the plan as early as possible. Ask the students to pay attention to safety.
We have little knowledge about Quyi.
Though we know a little about Quyi, we are not familiar with its terms. And thus, we can’t express our ideas clearly.
Mr Han is Quyi fans and some teachers know more about it.
Students and teachers have different opinion in doing research.
Though students have great interest in doing research, they don’t like clarifying material and typing.
Teachers tell students that clarifying material is an important aspect in doing research.
No budget
Many spending can’t be applied for reimbursement.
Teacher told the students to pay the expedition by themselves in advance. Students still like to participate in the research. Town and Talent Technologies promised to give some financial aid after the completion of website.
How to construct website
There is no teacher who is skilled in constructing web pages.
We learn it by ourselves and studied other web sites.
Corporation with school
Though we put great effort in doing research, our information can’t be reused in other courses.
We plan to participate in more campus activities to promote the development of Quyi.
More things to be done
In the interview, we found that more material needed to collect and more work need to be done.
Though we felt the pressure on our shoulder became heavier with the coming deadline, we were proud of our achievement.
Uploading web pages
The computer in campus is out of date and the speed of internet access is too slow.
We upload the web pages in bars of the county and city.

Our Project Sound Bite

We have got a better knowledge of Quyi’s history. It is a popular entertainment among the folk. In Qinghai Province, it mainly contains Pingxian, Yuexian, Xianxiao, Xiaodiao, Dajiao and etc. Yuexian mainly reflects the folk life, that’s why it is so popular among people.

The activity has enhanced our teamwork spirit and improved our communicating and interpersonal abilities. We have learnt a lot about communication with others. Although the process of research is harsh, we know that there is no harvest without sowing. The sweet fruit comes only with hard work. We have also gained the valuable experiences of interacting with others; this ability will be a long-life benefit for us.

By working together on the project, we have a fresh knowledge about ourselves. We not only see the merits of others, but also realize the strength of ourselves. With a common goal, we learn to "respect, communicate, be considerate and understanding", and we come to understand the meaning of "humility, contribution, agreeableness and gratefulness."
