Riyue
Mountain
Riyue Mountain, named Chiling in the Tang Dynasty, is located
on the southeast of Qinghai Lake. With 3520m altitude, it is called
“the barrier of Qinghai Lake” as it is the only access to enter
Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Date back to 420AD, a Buddhist monk-Songyun
went to learn Buddhism Scripture in India via Riyue Mountain. In
Tang Dynasty, the princess Wencheng also passed Riyue Mountain and
went for Tibet. Standing on the top of the mountain, you can see
rural scenery in the east and shining Qinghai Lake in the west with
Haixin Mount in the center. There’s an old saying about it”you can
see a complete new scene on the top of Riyue Mountain”.
