The old man got up with illness to welcome us when he knew our arrival. Looking at the darken room, we are very sad. The following dialogues are the interview to the old man:
How old are you?
70 years.
It seems that your disease is quite serious.
I had disease when I was young, but not too serious. It is more and more serious.
because I have no money to buy medicine. Now I have trouble in speaking and walking.
Why don’t you go to hospital?
It may cost a lot of money to go to hospital and there is no much money to cure my disease. Moreover, I have to live in hospital and be cared.
When was the house built?
It was founded when I was young and more than 40 years now
Is it warm to live so long time?
It is ok in summer, but the wind comes in from cracks in the wall in winter. It is no matter that I am old.
It seems quite new of your clothes, when did you make?
I have no money to make clothes and it was made by the people in village committee last year. They have applied allowance for me again. So I can get some money every month, food and clothing problem has been resolved.
What do you have usually?
I have some dry steamed bread in the morning, nothing at noon if not hungry. I will cook some potato noodles if I am better. On the contrary, I will have some dry steamed bread. Neighbors will also give me one bowl of stewed food or SaoZi noodles in the Spring Festival, of course, they will do some delicious food for me in daily time.
Do the people in village committee often come to see you?
Yes, they come to see me every month and ask me if I have some difficulties. Don’t you ever want to go to rest home? The life there is pretty good.
I am so old, just living day-to-day existence,I don’t want to put the communist party to trouble.
Neighbors seems kind to you, do they take care of you?
