Powerful water gate |
We come to the Hongya Mountain reservoir famous as the pearl in the desert. This is the largest reservoir in the desert in Asia which is also the life project of the people. Completed in 1958 and with the area of three hundred thousand square kilometers, it can contain 127 million cubic meters. Such a reservoir is also rare in the world. It was classified as the first one in China by CCTV. This reservoir is the only one water project in Minqin County which irrigates more than six hundred thousand mu. All the people spare no efforts in building the reservoir which makes them live a better life and preserves the oasis. |

When we reach the highest point on the dam, we can see the water and sky blend in the distance. There are wild ducks swimming on the lake. We feel as if we were in the picture. The camels come to the lake to drink water, which adds the beauty of the scenery. It is the water of Hongya Mountain that protects the local people. The Minqin oasis would not be preserved if there were no water. Let all of us pray for the water and pray for the people. We hope the water will be blessed by God. As the rain and the darkness progresses, we have to leave the pearl of the desert. |
