The award list of the International Schools Cyber Fair, the largest global web-building competition, was released yesterday. Works of three member schools of Town and Talent claim silver awards. This is also the first time schools from Chinese mainland participate in the event. The awarded schools are: Qinghai Qinglin Township Tu Center School, Category: 2. Community Groups and Special Populations with the title The Feeling of Tu Nationality, Ningxia Taole NO.1 Middle School, Category: 4. Local Specialties with the title Ningxia Pastry and Qinghai Dacai Junior Secondary School, Category: 6. Historical Landmarks with the title Ta’er Lamasery. Altogether 503 schools from 52 countries participated in the competition.

From 1995, the Fair has been held every year. It encourages the students to care about the environment, local community and culture, intercommunicate and share learning experience. Recognition is given to the best projects in eight content categories: local leaders, businesses, community organizations, historical landmarks, environment, music, art, and local specialties. Now in its 11th year, this competition-exhibition involves more than one million students and is the longest running international cyber event for schools.

In November 2005, with the help of Tang Youyi, consultant of Taiwan Hualian Growth Center and headmaster of Hualian Town Beichang Primary School, Town and Talent began to organize its member schools for the Fair and 16 enrolled. Finally, five of them finished Chinese and English versions and were eligible for the Fair for the outstanding performance for having no ample time.

The project of Qinghai Qinglin Township Tu Center School, the Feeling of Tu Nationality, introduces the history, construction, religion, folk custom and culture of the nationality and expects more people know about Tu and to prevent its culture disappearing.

The project of Qinghai Dacai Middle School introduces the construction, history, arts, religion and praying ceremonies in Ta’er Lamasery and records the interview of living budda, monks, people of local religion department and museum and the spreading Ta’er Lamasery to local people. Its main purpose is to make more people learn Ta’er Lamasery and pay more attention to the protection of the relics, and attracts more travelers to Qinghai.
The work of Ningxia Taole No.1 Middle School is about the cooking of paste food. To get the first-hand material, the students visited many restaurants and farmers’ home. They hope more people know about the special food and come to visit Ningxia.

Since it is the first time the schools take part in such grand international competition, they have no experience of building website and because the out-of-date equipments like computers and digital cameras, they have to overcome many difficulties in gaining needing material. In addition, most of the work was done in spare time.
