Yan Yangchu devoted himself in mass education and rural reconstruction movement both at Home Page and abroad. In 1943 he won the Copernican Citation as one of the “ten greatest revolutionaries of our time.” he was the only Asian ever to rank with such luminaries as Albert Einstein and John Dewey. Yan was born in Bazhou, Bazhong City. His thought represented mass people’s interest, and it also enlightened the strategy of developing the country by relying on science and education. Yan’s school made his dream come true. With the help of government leaders and teachers, it was founded after six years’ building. In order to revitalize local economy, Yan set vocational majors in his school, including law, secretary, teacher, electronics, finance and computer. A large part of graduates became the top leaders in their fields. In 1998, when the new terms came, Yan Yangchu Vocational School was renamed Yan Yangchu Middle School. This school offered convenience for one-parent children, orphans and financially-strapped students. For example, Wu Gang, who was an orphan from Zaolin Village, could study in campus without tuition fees. With the donation, he studied further in Zigong Normal College.

The teachers in that school also contributed a lot. In the stage of building school, each teacher lent the school 7,000 yuan. A couple of teachers lent 14,000 in all. Most teachers borrowed the money from relatives or banks for school’s survival and development. At the beginning, every teacher needed to do large amount of work. For example, Mr. Zhang Ming, worked as the principal, chairman, math teacher and etc. as local people were poor and ignorant, teachers always needed to persuade them to send their children to school.
Facing such difficulty, all the teachers insisted on their beloved job and set a good example for students. They carefully prepared for each course; stimulated students’ desire for knowledge, corrected students’ errors in their Home Pagework and etc. besides study, teachers’ also organized extra-curricular activities to train students’ ability in all aspects. Teachers’ love promoted students’ pursuit for knowledge and expectation of future.
Yan school’s contribution was confirmed by the society and students’ parents. Many parents thought that their children made much progress after studying in that school. Though the teachers’ income wasn’t high, they still worked hard and devoted themselves in their beloved education.
